Granting that I have already enrolled for a bridging course that will run for 8 weeks, what visa do I need to apply for? confused

it depends onwhich state or territory of australia are you going to undergo the bridging course..if in the case of new south wales (sydney) you need only a tourist visa that is valid for 3 months... for other states you need to apply for student visa
